The next installment of the Boss Tuneage Retro Series is something that is strongly unfinished business we have finally managed to put right!
"OUT OF CHAOS" is the collection of the demos recorded by RAN as a 4 piece between the years of 1991-1993. At which point the band continued as a 3 piece and recorded in 1994 the (up until now) unreleased album "BEAUTIFUL SONGS FOR UGLY CHILDREN" which is the companion release to "OUT OF CHAOS"
RAN - the name coming from the Japanese word for "chaos" - was originally formed in Sunderland sometime in 1991 when original LEATHERFACE bassist Stu Raymond left The Boat and teamed up with Tim Mirsadeghi, Ian Syborn and Graeme Philliskirk. During the sessions for second demo "TOTAL CHAOS" Stu would leave to be replaced by John Livingstone. Late in 1993 Graeme left the band, and would re-appear with Ian Armstrong and Lainey in RUGRAT / BULLTACO, and would be bass player for LEATHERFACE in their final incarnation and can currently be found being kept busy by ROACH SQUAD and LITTLE ROCKET RECORDS,
Ian would also drum not only on the last LEATHERFACE peel session but would also have stints in RED ALERT and STOKOE.
Boss T has wanted to release something by RAN for over 30 years - and this album features 4 tracks that were planned for an intended 7" EP release in 1993 by Boss Tuneage, the "Little Tasmania " 7"EP, which would later be released in small quantity on US label Silver Fox (and extremely hard to find! ) - the European version on Boss Tuneage was shelved following personnel changes and plans for the forthcoming album took shape in 1994.
Since Boss Tuneage relaunched in 1999, for almost two and a half decades we've wanted to make good on our promise to finally release something by RAN, but it looked impossible as we had lost touch with Tim and John from the band (Ian tragically passed away in 2002) - but earlier this year, a chance message from Ian's brother Neil put me back in touch for the first time in almost three decades with Tim and John - and with their blessing and co-ordinating this release of the earlier material with Graeme, here we are, finally, RAN available on Boss Tuneage - on LP and CD!
The vinyl pressing is on random mix/effect colour vinyl - and there is also a CD version also ,,,
Not only that - we have a companion release by RAN - "BEAUTIFUL SONGS FOR UGLY CHILDREN" the unreleased album from 1994 that is also available to order on LP or CD, as well as combination offers for both formats, or both releases, also listed on the webstore.. if you wait three decades for something, you might as well do it in style!
